Tetra Tech is supporting the Vanuatu Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) to develop curriculum, syllabus materials and teacher guides in core subjects for students in secondary school.
From 2016 to 2021, the Vanuatu Ministry of Education and Training implemented a new primary curriculum for Years 1-6, supported by the Australian Government-funded Vanuatu Education Support Program (VESP) and managed by Tetra Tech. With the delay in expected support for secondary education due to COVID-19, MoET sought assistance from New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade (MFAT) to continue the junior secondary curriculum development for Years 7-10 to prevent regression to outdated curriculums for transitioning students.
Our role and impact
Tetra Tech, leveraging its success with VESP and deep understanding of Vanuatu’s educational landscape, was selected to lead this initiative. The project has seen the development of curriculum, syllabus materials and teacher guides for core subjects in both English and French, starting with Year 7 and extending to Years 8-9 with plans for Year 9 materials underway.
The initiative has significantly contributed to the international benchmarking of syllabus standards, ensuring a robust educational framework for Vanuatu. Comprehensive teacher guides and resources support lesson planning and pedagogical strategies, enhancing the quality of education. The program also focuses on professional learning for teachers, aligning with national efforts towards a more localized and inclusive curriculum development process, ultimately strengthening Vanuatu’s junior secondary education system.
