Tetra Tech manages the Australia Awards Nauru (AAN) on behalf of the Australian Government, a pivotal program designed to foster the development of Nauru’s future leaders and professionals through education.
The AAN represents a strategic initiative by the Australian Government to invest in the growth and development of Nauru’s professional workforce. Through these scholarships, Nauruans have the opportunity to pursue studies in Australia or at renowned Pacific institutions, empowering them to contribute significantly to their country’s development upon their return. The program emphasises the importance of creating strong, lasting links between Australia and Nauru, ensuring that both nations benefit from shared knowledge and mutual interests.
Our role and impact
Tetra Tech coordinates a dedicated team to ensure the smooth operation of the Australia Awards Nauru. We oversee the entire scholarship cycle, collaborating closely with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) program manager and the team at the Australian High Commission in the Republic of Nauru. This includes promoting the program, selecting high-potential awardees and providing comprehensive support throughout their educational journey. Our goal is to attract diverse applicants and equip them with the skills and knowledge they need to drive Nauru’s development forward.
Since its inception, the AAN program has successfully awarded scholarships to 43 Nauruans (53% female), contributing to a growing pool of 161 Australia-educated alumni enhancing Nauru’s professional sectors. Surveys reveal that a significant majority of these alumni are gainfully employed in their fields of study, applying their acquired knowledge and skills to benefit Nauru. Furthermore, the strong affinity alumni hold toward Australia and their educational institutions underscores the program’s success in fostering lasting international relationships and professional networks.
